While on vacation with her family in May of 2013. Carolyn began complaining of a stomach ache. The day after she returned home, her parents, took her to her pediatrician who, suspecting appendicitis, sent her for a CT scan. The scan revealed a cancerous tumor around her rib (11 and 12) and pushing against the liver and kidney. Sarah was approaching her 13th birthday when she was diagnosed with a Ewing’s Sarcoma tumor in her right leg. She began treatment and completed 14 rounds of chemotherapy in April of 2010. Sarah had tumor removal surgery where a large portion of her femur was removed and replaced with a cadaver bone and plate.
