Emma was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia just six days before her third birthday. She was doing great in therapy until she entered the maintenance phase of therapy which lasted about a year and a half. One of the drugs used in this phase, methotrexate, which is used to prevent the cancer from spreading to her spine and brain, caused her to have brain lesions and damage to her basal ganglia.
