Kayla was a normal nine-year-old who enjoyed dancing and playing sports before she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) in November 2018. MDS is a rare group of bone marrow failure disorders—and a type of blood cancer—in which the body no longer makes enough healthy, normal blood cells in the bone marrow. Early on, there are typically no symptoms. Later symptoms may include fatigue, shortness of breath, easy bleeding or frequent infections. It is rare enough on its own, but even more so in children, with 75% of MDS patients being over 60 years of age. A stem cell transplant is considered the only way to potentially cure MDS.

Every child who has been diagnosed with childhood cancer inspires us to Rally On to find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and, ultimately, cures. Please join us in the fight against childhood cancer by making a donation or setting up your own Rally fundraiser today.
