Dr. Resar is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist and physician-scientist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her research program is directed at understanding the molecular underpinnings of leukemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and tumor progression. In 2000, her team discovered HMGA1 as a potent oncogene important in leukemia development and therapy resistance. Her laboratory subsequently found that HMGA1 drives tumor progression and refractory disease in diverse tumors. Since then, Dr. Resar and her team have focused on mechanisms underlying HMGA1 in leukemia and other tumors in order to develop novel approaches to disrupt its function in therapy
Dr. Resar earned her MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin and then completed her Residency and Fellowship in Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
