Dr. Orgel is an attending physician within the Leukemia and Lymphoma and Survivorship and Supportive Care Program at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He is also Director of Quality & Patient Safety for their Cancer and Blood Disease Institute and has an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Orgel’s research focuses on investigating the impact of obesity on pediatric leukemia toxicity and relapse and developing new agents and strategies to reduce chemotherapy-induced permanent hearing loss. His clinical specialty is acute leukemias, where he is an international expert in a rare form of the disease, Acute Leukemia of Ambiguous Lineage. Dr. Orgel serves on the Steering Committees for the Children’s Oncology Group Cancer Control & Supportive Care and Adolescent & Young Adult domain committees, and as co-chair for the Supportive Care Committee of the Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia & Lymphoma early phase trials consortium.
Dr. Orgel completed a general pediatrics residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship at CHLA, and a Master of Science in Clinical and Biomedical Investigations from the University of Southern California.
