Gus’ family writes, “Augustus “Gus” was diagnosed with stage 4 Medulloblastoma brain cancer in June 2010. His case is considered high risk because he is under the age of 3, his cancer is metastatic, and there were free-floating cancer cells in his cerebrospinal fluid. Gus underwent major brain surgery in June where a golf ball-sized tumor was removed from the posterior fossa portion of the brain. After surgery, he lost his ability to walk, talk, swallow and see. He has regained everything back since then except for his mobility. We are taking baby steps to getting his strength back, and he has learned how to crawl again. We hope to see him walking again very soon. Gus has just finished sixth round of chemotherapy involving high-dose chemotherapy followed by rescue stem cell transplant at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Gus has an amazing personality for a 2 1/2-year-old. He has an incredible vocabulary for such a little guy and, his communication with others is awesome. Gus LOVES animals and loves to tell you the sounds each animal makes. He loves books, blocks, cars and all his Little People toys. He also likes all the typical toddler TV, Dora the Explorer, Diego, Sesame Street, Blues Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba!, and Backyardagains to name a few. He is a beautiful little boy that will melt even the toughest of hearts with his giggles and smiles. He is truly a mighty warrior, hence his nickname “Augustus the Mighty,” and his strength is an inspiration to many. Many have named him as their hero. He certainly is a hero to me.”

Gus earned his angel wings on March 12, 2014 after nearly four years of a fight against childhood cancer

Every child who has been diagnosed with childhood cancer inspires us to Rally On to find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and, ultimately, cures. Please join us in the fight against childhood cancer by making a donation or setting up your own Rally fundraiser today.
