Korbin was diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on September 23, 2021 when he was just 7 years old. Being an energetic kid that loved to play outside and be amongst his friends, this diagnosis created more barriers to socializing than COVID and as a result caused a lot of moments of sadness. Once Korbin truly understood the reason for the precautions and his diagnosis, things got much better. Since then he has turned 8 years old and has been the SMILING light that the family needs. Korbin’s smile is infectious to everyone he meets. Even during all of the treatment and no matter how bad he feels, Korbin will find a moment to still smile and say everything will be okay. The most difficult part of the treatment was in February when he lost his hair. Korbin always had long curly hair and for him to lose it caused him to become depressed. He would say that he was no longer Korbin because he didn’t feel nor look like himself. It took a special classmate/friend to video chat with him and tell him that his bald head was normal, for him to move past that difficult time. Korbin has completed several phases of treatment with no major issues and is progressing very well. He is looking forward to potentially returning to school in the fall for 3rd grade.
