Rally’s Timeline of
Heart, Grit and Progress

Where It All Began
A coach and his player were forever changed when the 12-year-old pitcher, William, was diagnosed with cancer.

The Power of a Prayer Circle
A prayer circle was formed, a powerful question was asked and Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research was born.

Grassroots and a Grant
Rally Foundation launched grassroots fundraising efforts and presented our first research grant for $5,000 in the same driveway where the prayer circle began.

Momentum Takes Hold
Rally hired its first staff member, hosted the inaugural Benefit Bash, formed the Medical Advisory Board and awarded a seed grant to Dr. Nai-Kong Cheung, paving the way for FDA approval of Naxitimab® for neuroblastoma. U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson also joined the Advisory Board.

Every Dollar Matters
With 93¢ of every dollar going directly to the mission, Rally funded Dr. Kraveka’s preclinical neuroblastoma studies that led to FDA approval of DFMO and supported Dr. Gregory Friedman’s brain tumor vaccine, which is now in a phase II clinical trial.

Playing with Purpose
Rally hosted the first Brian McCann Celebrity Softball Game and launched the Rally Athlete program, which later evolved into Rally Fit.

New Programs, New City, New Therapies
Rally launched the Family Emergency Fund, hosted the first Rally on the Runway, founded Rally Tennessee and continued early funding for Dr. John Maris’ MIBG combination therapy for neuroblastoma.

Fueling Research, Feeding Families
Rally awarded $1 million in grants, including support for Dr. Sara Tasian’s CAR-T research that led to FDA approval of Kymriah® and Dr. Angela Waanders’ work on pediatric glioma, which contributed to a new FDA-approved combination therapy. The Rally Good Meal Program was launched and has fed 150,000 families in the hospital to date.

Advocacy in Action
Rally led its first Rally to the Capitol in Washington, D.C., securing $3 million in new federal funding. Rally also funded Dr. Elias Sayour’s osteosarcoma vaccine research, now in clinical trial, and celebrated one year of Rally Gulf Coast.

Powering Data for a Cure
Rally seed funding helped launch Dr. Sam Volchenboum’s Pediatric Cancer Data Commons for rhabdomyosarcoma, laying the groundwork for 11 additional pediatric cancer Data Commons. This unified platform allows researchers to access harmonized data, saving time and reducing duplication.

Strength Through the Pandemic
Despite global challenges, Rally awarded $2 million in grants, fulfilled all grant commitments and raised $1 million virtually to keep hope alive for childhood cancer families.

Continuing to Soar
Rally earned a perfect Charity Navigator score, making it the highest-rated pediatric cancer foundation in the world, while launching the Rally Travel Fund and Rally West.

A Record Year of Impact for Rally’s 20th Anniversary
To kick off its milestone anniversary, Rally awarded $5 million in grants, bringing our total to $40.5 million. Rally also advocated and secured $75 million in new federal funding for childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancers, raising the eight-year total to $317 million. Every day, we are inspired by the more than 2,000 Rally Kids to Rally On!
The Next 20 Years Starts Now
From Breakthroughs to Cures: Powering the Next Era of Childhood Cancer Research
We’re not just investing in research. We’re building a future where kids survive and thrive.
