Sarah’s Cancer Journey
Sarah woke her parents up before the sun came up on New Years Day, 2022, with a terribly sore throat. It was her sister’s wedding day, and she powered through as a beautiful junior bridesmaid until five pm when the wedding was over, and she crashed into bed. Over the next twelve days, she would be on multiple antibiotics being treated for strep and for mono as she continued to decline. She ended up at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital on January 12, 2022 with a diagnosis of blood cancer. Sarah spent 35 days in the hospital including the first five days in critical care undergoing many tests and procedures. Sarah was able to reach remission after 149 days and remains in remission today. She’s currently in maintenance and has developed migraines and AVN, a type of necrosis that affects the knees in long term chemo patients.
We are so thankful for our medical team at Vanderbilt as well as the wonderful family and community that God has placed in our lives for such a time as this.
