I was originally diagnosed with ALL in 2005 during my 7th grade year. I received chemotherapy treatments for 2 and a half years along with some radiation treatments. Up until my diagnosis, I had been very active as I enjoyed playing basketball and softball. Due to the high impact and intensity of these sports, I had to turn to something less physical. This is when I fell in love with game of golf and continued to play through high school.
I had been in remission for almost 4 years when I relapsed in Fall of 2011 during my freshman at the University of Georgia. My relapse protocol consisted of chemotherapy treatments for a year and a half. For the first 8 months of treatment, I had to return home from UGA to Dalton, GA where I continued to take online courses. Due to the success of my treatments thus far, the support of my amazing parents and by the grace of God, I returned to UGA in August of 2012 to continue taking classes on campus but would travel home on the weekends for treatment. I was determined to not let cancer stop me from achieving my goals and am proud to say that I was able to graduate Magna Cum Laude in 4 years from UGA with a BBA in Marketing.
I have been in remission since April of 2013 and am doing better than ever today. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jordan Dodd, who proposed to me in the clinic where I received treatments and surrounded by the people who made a life with him possible.
One saying that I always stuck to and still do to this day is this….I would never wish cancer on any other person but am thankful that it happened to me and that God gave me the ability to defeat this awful disease. Today, I am a stronger person because of it and am more determined than ever to find a cure. Photo Credit: Beasley Photography
