Lake was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in May of 2012, two weeks before his 6th Birthday. He went through 4 rounds of intensive chemo with month long stays in the hospital and was in remission by October 2012. But 6 months later in April 2013 we found out he relapsed so he went through 2 more rounds of chemo to prepare him for a bone marrow transplant. He then had more chemo and radiation and then his transplant on August 5th 2013 using an unrelated cord blood. He did amazing and was back home by Halloween, back to school by the following Spring, and even playing baseball. But then we found out a day before his birthday this past May that he had relapsed again. We were told at this point that his cancer may be incurable and there was not much more to do.
After lots of praying and talking with different doctors we decided to try a chemo that he could do on an out patient basis so he could live his life somewhat normal. Lake earned his angel wings on May 1, 2015, just a few weeks before his 10th birthday.
He loved all things sports-Baseball, football, basketball! He was signed to the Atlanta Hawks for one day. Lake loved to swim, play video games, ride 4 wheelers and play with his brother and sister. Lake and his contagious smile and joy are missed dearly every day.
