On August 26, 2014 at the young age of 13, Justin was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his left tibia after an injury during his Cross Country practice. He immediately started his “MAP” chemotherapy protocol. Last November he had limb sparing surgery which replaced 2/3 of his tibia with an allograft bone. 10 days later we received the wonderful news that the chemo was working and killed more than 95% of the tumor. Justin has since continued chemo and is scheduled to complete his protocol by the middle of April. Unfortunately due to the nature of his surgery, he is still dependent on crutches and will rely on them another 6 months. None of this has stopped Justin. We are all amazed with his determination and perseverance. He has not once complained or questioned why this is his journey – his response is, “God chose me because I’m strong and somehow, someway my journey will help someone else.” Justin is an avid reader and loves anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking!
