John is a typical 10 year old boy. He loves video games, soccer, WWE, and begging for everyone’s phone just to play Pokemon Go. John was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on July 1, 2015. John had been battling a long unexplained fever, which led his pediatrician to test his blood levels. After the fever came back after a break his Dr. told us it was time to take him to the hospital. After spending a few days in the hospital we were assured that the fever was caused by Shigella, which he likely developed after swimming in a lake the weekend before. When we believed we were in the clear we received a call that changed are world immediately. We had to bring John to the Aflac Cancer Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite two days later. After a few tests, John was admitted to the hospital. The next day he received, a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, and started his first round of chemotherapy! John has proven how strong he is and continued to thrive throughout this process.
