Project Description

Anna Charles

Anna Charles (“AC”) was diagnosed with Acute Myleoid Leukemia (AML) on April 15th , 2018 at the age of 6. After a routine tonsillectomy, her health began to deteriorate. Severe pain sent her family to the emergency room where they heard the words, “your child has cancer”. Three days after her diagnosis, a mass of AML cells was discovered on her spine. She had emergency surgery to remove the mass. After waking up from the surgery AC said she couldn’t feel her legs. At first this was believed to be a side affect coming off of anesthesia. As hours passed and she still had no feeling, it was discovered that following her surgery. AC was paralyzed from her lower chest down.

After four rounds of chemo, Anna Charles relapsed and began preparing for radiation and a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, her body began to shut down before the transplant could be scheduled. On September 16, 2018, Anna Charles passed away with many friends and family members by her side.
