ATLANTA, GA - September 22, 2005 - Inspired by a family friend’s courageous fight against childhood cancer, in the fall of 2005, native Atlantan Dean Crowe asked what she could do to help combat the disease. Thus, the Rally Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to fund childhood cancer research through grassroots initiatives, was established.

“Each school day, there are 46 families thrust into the world of childhood cancer. As I look around, I see schools and communities desperate to help these families, and when I learned how under-funded childhood cancer research truly is, there seemed to be a natural fit: Raise the money to give these families what they need–better treatment options and cures. Funding is the key,” Crowe said.

Rally Foundation gives 100% of its net proceeds to fund all phases of childhood cancer research that has been approved by the NIH (National Institute of Health). Rally Foundation helps to fill the estimated $30 million a year gap in childhood cancer research funding. Rally supports the collaborative research of physicians, scientists and nurses at hospitals nationwide. Rally Foundation supports all phases of childhood cancer research from science at the bench (very early research) to Phase I, II, and III clinical trials. More than 80% of children and adolescence with cancer are enrolled in clinical trials. Rally also will provide critical funding for personnel, for example a Rally Nurse or Rally Fellow, who help to facilitate cutting edge childhood cancer research.

Meet Chelsie

Chelsie was diagnosed with stage III High Risk Neuroblastoma in August 2004 at the very young age of 4 months. By her first birthday she had endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, 12 rounds of radiation, oral chemotherapy, surgery to remove the remaining tumor, and a very risky stem cell transplant. Through it all she remained a trooper. In February 2005, she was declared NED (no evidence of disease), which she remains today.

We were very fortunate to live in a community with a cancer center for children. We count our blessings daily that she is where she is today, especially since many of her friends are not so fortunate.

Chelsie has started pre-school this fall and loves to cheer on her favorite team ( O-H-I-O ). She is still followed very closely by her oncologist and is scanned every 3 - 6 months. She is such a joy to our family and we pray that a cure is found, so that others may live.
