Rally Athletes from the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, based in Atlanta, will begin training for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Oct. 11. The Rally Team, led by local running pro Marlene Atwood,Ê will be running to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. The team will offer a supportive and fun environment for runners of all levels to train for a marathon, while helping a good cause.
Each Rally Athlete will run the marathon in honor or memory of a Rally Kid affected by cancer. The five-month training program for the Rally Athlete team begins in May. Runners who participate will receive personalized training schedules, access to an online message board to communicate with other athletes, training and race day apparel, professional virtual coaching, a fundraising coach, a fundraising website, group runs and a pre-race pasta dinner.
Professional coaching will be provided by Marlene Atwood, a nine-year certified running coach. She was the Road Runners Club of America Georgia State Representative for 8 years and has competed in 52 marathons, four Boston Marathons, hundreds of 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons.
