Step Up to the Plate and Sponsor a Childhood Cancer Survivor

For $1,000, you can sponsor a childhood cancer survivor at a survivorship clinic and receive a limited-edition vineyard vines Tom Glavine Tie.  More than 75% of childhood cancer survivors have long-term health issues resulting from their treatment.  Due to the lack of funding, there are at least 10 childhood cancer survivors in Atlanta that need follow up treatment.  Survivorship clinics provide follow-up care and much needed scientific data.  This data helps doctors modify treatment protocols to minimize these health issues.  Please consider sponsoring a survivor today and own a piece of baseball history, too!

Ten survivorship clinic sponsorships have been made so far!
We thank our sponsors and hope others will step up to the plate and join today!

Meet Steven

Steven was five years old when his mother discovered a mass in his upper left arm.  After several visits to specialists and surgery, Steven was diagnosed with a Neurogenic Sarcoma attached to the Schwann nerve.  Doctors determined that another surgery was needed to remove a diseased nerve and they grafted in a new nerve using nerves from both of his legs.  Steven then underwent several months of radiation therapy at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.  For the next 10 years, Steven traveled from his hometown in Orlando, Florida to Gainesville for check-ups every three months.

Steven will graduate in December 2007 from the University of Florida with a degree in History and Religion. Steven is currently the President of a campus ministry at UF and loves spending time with his friends. He enjoys playing racquetball, football, and underwater hockey. Steven has realized that one of his passions is missions work.  Last summer he spent two months in Kenya as a missionary intern working in the urban slums of Nairobi, Kenya. He plans on returning to Kenya again this summer and hopes to attend seminary sometime after graduating from college.
